Biography of H.E. Sultan Ahmad Baheen
Ambassador, Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary
Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to People's Republic of China


Sultan Ahmad Baheen was appointed as Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Afghanistan to People’s Republic of China in May 14th, 2009, and presented his letter of credence to H.E. Hu Jintao, President of People’s Republic of China.

H.E. Sultan Ahmad Baheen completed the primary and secondary schooling in his birth-place, province of Herat. In addition to this, he completed his higher education majored in Communication from Kabul University and attended the short-term educational program subjected to media and law in Oxford University, United Kingdom.

His Excellency was lecturer at university for a single year. Afterwards joint the provision of media.

He started his work in the provision of media as reporter and translator, and later appointed as international and political affairs commentator in Afghanistan’s prestigious newspaper and News agency, and later promoted to General-Director of state run Bakhter News Agency which was the only News Agency in Afghanistan at that time.

After the fall of Taliban and establishment of Transitional Administration of Afghanistan, he was the General-Director of Bakhter News Agency and later joined the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and for the duration of four years, worked as Chief of media communication and also advisor to United Nations Spokesperson.

H.E. Sultan Ahmad Baheen, appointed as Spokesperson for Afghanistan Independent Election Commission during the Presidential (2004) and Parliamentary (2005) election of the country, and also expelled his knowledge to be the head of media communication for Loya Jirga on Afghanistan Constitution.

Mr. Sultan Ahmad Baheen in 2006 appointed as Spokesperson to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and in the meantime he was heading the media communication department of the ministry. Notwithstanding, he was the Advisor to H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs for media and communication affairs.

He has written hundreds of articles in Afghan and foreign media affairs and translated three books into Dari languages.

Sultan Ahmad Baheen was born in 1955. He is married and has four children (one daughter and four sons). He is fluent in Dari, Pashto and English, and also has full knowledge of French and Russian languages.
